Before I give any more responses to some of the questions and statements you might hear from friends who question the Bible I’d like to give a very important suggestion:
BE NICE!!!! (the all caps and 4 exclamation points are my attempt at internet irony).
Here’s how the Apostle Peter said it:
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect – 1 Peter 3:15
in the next few days I’m going to suggest some more clear simple responses you can give to someone who questions the Bible. But understand that you just push people farther from God if you’re not nice.
Peter says that Christ should be such an obvious treasure to me that people ask about my relationship with God. When they do my response should always be gentle and respectful.
People may forget if your response was incorrect. They’ll probably never forget if your response was mean.
